The Best Way to Treat Hives

If you are looking for the best way to treat hives, you should have a bit of knowledge about the causes of hives to prevent more outbreaks.

People who suffer with the skin condition called hives know just how frustrating an outbreak is. Hives are triggered when your body has an allergic reaction to something such as pet dander or other specific stimuli. Approximately 20 percent of people will experience hives at some point in their life.

The first method of treating hives is avoiding the things that cause hives. Is it a food you are allergic to? Is it some type of clothing that is irritating your skin? If so, try to stay away from that specific food or type of clothing to keep the risk of breaking out in hives to a minimum. Reducing stress levels has also been proven to reduce the risk of a hives breakout. Stress can not only bring on hives, but it can also make an episode of hives worse than it would normally be.

Another way to treat hives is by taking a warm bath or shower for about 15 minutes. This will help reduce the itching and burning sensation that hives can cause. The warm water will help kill the organisms that cause the outbreak of hives as well. Using a home-made lotion to dry the affected areas is another way of treating the hives.

Calamine lotion works effectively to relieve the itching that hives can cause. If you do not have any calamine lotion at home, you can try other natural treatments that you can make right in your own kitchen. Mixing approximately two cups of oatmeal and 3 tablespoons of cornstarch with water and applying it to the hives will help. Applying a layer of milk of magnesia will help relieve the itching from the hives, as well as drinking herbal teas.

Herbal hives sprays are also available for treating the hives. Herbal sprays work by a process called sublingual application. This means that the ingredients go to work immediately by entering the blood stream through the vessels in the tongue. Oral sprays begin to work much more quickly than pills and powders. These other medications need to be ingested first, and they begin to work only after they have been absorbed into the body. The oral hives sprays are simply sprayed under the tongue about three times a day. This is probably one of the quickest treatment methods for hives.
